What this estimate includes
This calculator is designed for a quick planning comparison, with every important assumption visible. It includes:
- Annual gross pay
- Weekly work and commute hours
- Annual work-specific costs and weeks worked
How the calculation works
True hourly rate = (annual gross pay − annual work costs) ÷ ((work hours + commute hours) × weeks worked)
Results update as you type. Rounding happens for display; calculations use the full values entered. A real statement, pay stub, contract, or account agreement may use different timing and rules.
A worked example
A $62,000 salary with $3,200 in annual work costs and 2,350 combined work-and-commute hours equals about $25.02 per hour.
Important limitations
This is an educational estimate, not financial, tax, legal, or employment advice. It cannot account for every local rule, fee, benefit, deduction, compounding convention, or personal circumstance. Use it to understand direction and scale, then verify an important decision with the relevant employer, lender, account provider, or qualified professional.
Frequently asked questions
Should I include taxes?
For a clean job-to-job comparison, use gross pay consistently. You can subtract expected taxes from both offers if you have reliable estimates.
Which costs count?
Include costs caused by the job, such as commuting, required clothing, parking, or extra care costs—not ordinary living expenses.
